About Me

This is the website of me; Graham Gilchrist, a freelance web designer based in Hampshire in the UK. I have a Masters Degree in physics and am currently studying for a PhD at Southampton University in liquid crystal optics. I work part time for the School of Physics and Astronomy as a web consultant.

My hobbies include a range of creative pursuits including directing home videos, photography, miniature painting and sculpting and occasional art and fiction writing, as well as what is probably an unhealthy obsession with gaming.

I am not this Graham Gilchrist, or this one, although this one sounds like a cool guy.

About the Site

I run this website in my spare time to showcase the projects I have worked on both professionally and those that are more personal.

This site first started back in 1997 when I was still the timid age of 16. the page started as my dedication to Star Wars and Buffy The Vampire Slayer but soon progressed to something more. In time, the Star Wars part got it's own complete section and I added a gaming site to cope with tactics and rules etc. stemming from my addiction to games of all kinds. Sections for photos and jokes followed and eventually evolved into what you see before you.

Its form have changed many times over the years, and I still plan to some time (read: probably will never get around to it) convert some older designs into a css theme selector. You can see screenshots of the evolution of the design and content of the site on the right.

This site was made entirely in notepad (plain text all the way baby!) and is powered by an an amazing content management system known as Modx. It is currently hosted by one.com who offer an incredibly competitive hosting package.

P.S. i know the css validation is broken, but this is down to an excellent third party gallery script called lightbox which provides much more functionality than it breaks.
