Butch: You know, when I was a kid, I always thought I'd grow up to be a hero. - Sundance Kid: Well, it's too late now.
- Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
This site first started back in 1997 when I was still the timid age of 16. the page started as my dedication to Star Wars and Buffy The Vampire Slayer but soon progressed to something more. In time, the Star Wars part got it's own complete section and I added a gaming site to cope with tactics and rules etc. stemming from my addiction to games of all kinds. Sections for photos and jokes followed and eventually evolved into what you see before you.
This site was made entirely in notepad (plain text all the way baby!) and is powered by an an amazing content management system known as Modx. It is currently hosted by b-one.net who offer an incredibly competitive hosting package.
P.S. i know the css validation is broken, but this is down to an excellent third party gallery script called lightbox which provides much more functionality than it breaks.
1997 - First pages of site uploaded.
1998 - Major site overhaul. Added frames and more pages.
1999 - Reorganised site to include downloads for different games on appropriate pages. Added a new quake page to site for new levels, scripts etc.
2000 - The Holiday Season is on it's way. And to get in the mood, I have updated the site with a christmassy look. Changed side frame design with new graphics and font size. Got a new domain name for the site. It will now be www.gilchrist.cwc.net.
2001 - Uploaded new site design. The new site uses a table in the main window and I-frames to provide navigation around the various pages. Unfortunately Netscape doesn't like it too well but it still works. Also added Gaming/CCG section.
2002 - Changed site to normal frames to allow Netscape Compatability. Minor Site redesign. Docking Bay 94 and the Gaming Fez now have their own independent sections. Also introduced some new title graphics.
2002 - Redesigned as of July 2003. Finishing my Degree, I realised the potential for a more mature site used to promote myself. Two days and a domain name later, the design for a new site came about. The HTML code however, was not quite such an easy task. Never one to shy from a challenge, I persevered and here we are.
2004 - As my knowledge of web standards and graphic design have improved, I redesigned the site to be XHTML 1.0 and CSS compliant. This will make future layout changes a lot easier. No doubt the site will go through many incarnations in the future as my mood or ideas change, but for the moment, I'm pretty happy with the result. And now it's time for me to lay back, and let you look around for yourself.
